Spain is one of the great nations of football that does not have any world champion title. Since 1978 the Spaniards were present at all stages of the World Cup finals and was even hosting the 1982 edition, the year in which Italy emerged victorious. At European level the story is different, Spain are the actual champions.

Spain had a 100% winning qualifying stage with ten games resulted in ten wins with a balance of twenty-eight goals scored and five conceded. The result imposed at home to Belgium (5-0) and the visit to Bosnia (5-2) were the highlights of qualifying from Spain. After completing the qualification, the Spanish national team has played three friendly matches, won 2-1 against Argentina, Austria (5-1) and France (2-0).

The Spaniards have a lot of players with great quality which include names like Casillas in goal, Sergio Ramos and Puyol in defense, Xabi Alonso, Xavi or Fabregas in midfield and the infernal duo David Villa and Fernando Torres in attack. But the strength of Spain does not lie only in their starting eleven and the bank will also have players of great class for sure. The strength of their squad and the status of many of their players make Spain a major candidate to victory in South Africa

Key Players

Xavi Hernandez - With 30 years he always had played in Barcelona, being a product of the Catalan school. Natural born playmaker, has an incredible quality of passing. In 2009 was considered the third best player in the world by FIFA and is only behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He has also been selected several times to the team of the year in UEFA and FIFA.
Xavi has already more than eighty caps and debuted on the Spanish team in 2000. At Euro 2008 was a major player in the campaign of the Spaniards and was eventually considered the best player of the tournament by UEFA.

Iker Casillas - Goalkeepers of 28 years, a product of youth schools from Real Madrid where he has imposed since very young. Casillas will certainly be fighting for the title of best goalkeeper in this World Cup thanks to his reflexes and agility. Iker has been considered the best goalkeeper in the world by FIFA and was part of the UEFA team of the year in the last three years.
The goalkeeper of Real Madrid now has over one hundred international caps, was part of the group participating in Euro 2000 but his debut in major competitions took place in 2002.

The Coach

Vicente del Bosque has his life turned to Real Madrid, played there for eleven years in a career where he also defended the colors of national team.
At Santiago Bernabeu won two league championships and one super cup, won the European level two Champions Leagues and one UEFA Super Cup. He left the "merengues" in 2003 and in the following year had a short and unsuccessful experience serving the Turkish Besiktas.

In 2008 he was chosen as successor of Luis Aragones's in Spanish squad and after dominating the qualifying round, he will guide the team in this edition of the World Cup.
