The Italian Football Team is the second most successful national football team at World Championships, taking out victorious on four occasions (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) and twice (1970 and 1994) in second place.

Italy currently holds the trophy and is obviously a strong candidate for the highest place of the podium. Italy was the first team to win two consecutive world championships and the second to win four World Championship titles.

In the qualifying campaign they as unbeaten leaders in Group 8. In ten games, they had seven wins and three draws with 18 goals scored and seven conceded ,

Gianluigi Buffon - Born in Carrara on January 28, 1978, has 32 years.  In 2006 was considered the best goalkeeper in the world and in 2009 he was elected as the best goalkeeper ever. His first game in national team was in Moscow in 1997 (draw 1-1 against Russia) Buffon have already made a total of 100 games, making him the 4th player with most appearances in the " Alpine" Team.

Fabio Cannavaro - Born in Napoli on September 13, 1973, has 36 years. The player has received on 2006 the Golden Ball award, given by France Football magazine. He made his debut against Northern Ireland at January 22, 1997. He is the current captain of the Italian national team and has 131 games for and 2 goals scored.

Marcelo Lippi is (again) the coach after winning the trophy in 2006. He decided to withdraw from the national team and was replaced by Roberto Donadoni, but the low participation in the Euro 2008 bring Lippi again .
